GINIA Kids

Ginia is a sweet, feminine name that can be used for babies of any age. It’s derived from Virginia or the Latin verginia, and means “maiden.” It’s also associated with the biblical Virgin Mary. giniä is a great choice for a baby girl.

In this series, Gina D and her clubhouse friends encourage young viewers at home to be kind to each other in a series of character skits. Simon invents a machine to identify sounds inside and outside the clubhouse, and Gina D and Simon play a game of rhyming to reinforce the concepts of high and low pitches and loud and quiet noises. The Cuddle Bugs help children make musical instruments with household items and Pierre D’Artist paints instruments that make different sounds. Gina sings a host of new songs including “Sounds Are All Around Us”, “Loud Sounds / Quiet Sounds” and more.

The characters in Gina D’s clubhouse emphasize the importance of being healthy by teaching preschoolers about good food and exercise. TV Ted shows how to wash your hands properly, Pierre D’Artist paints pictures of fruits and vegetables that are good for you and Miss Muffin makes nutritious snacks. The Kids Club characters also demonstrate the importance of being active and exercise with Pierre leading the animated BOBO Blocks on a train ride to letters in the alphabet and TV Ted presenting an aerobics dance.

GINIA Beauty

Ginia’s world is shaken by her friendship with Amelia, a painter’s model. Ginia is naive but she develops in a variety of ways in the presence of Amelia, who challenges her view of aesthetic beauty and sexuality.

The film’s setting in Turin in 1938 is remarkable. Despite being set a year before the rise of fascism, there is little mention of it: a few scattered references to Mussolini’s speech, three despotic militiamen, or the black shirts that Severino must wear.

The film ends with a climactic dance sequence between Ginia and Amelia that is quite extraordinary. It summarizes so much of the passion that has gone into this relationship and sets the scene for what is to come. It’s a shame the movie doesn’t continue on in this way. I would have loved to see more of this friendship. It’s one of the most interesting things about the film.
